Cardinal symbolizes the spiritual messenger of our lost loved ones. Perfect gift for those who have passed away but are still living in their hearts.I always loved the sentiment that cardinals appear when angels are near. While carving this, I made some mistakes by snapping the bark that frames the carving. At first, I planned on glueing it but I couldn't help thinking that the broken frame serves as a more important sentiment that without death, there cannot be life. The dead branch provides a place for moss and lichen to grow and makes room for new growth on the tree. In a time where too many are experiencing death and loss, I hope that all can find hope and see the light from the ones they love.

This cardinal was hand carved and painted in a thin slab of basswood. At 7” tall, 8 ½” wide, and ¾” thick, this little cardinal will look terrific hanging on the wall.
